In the wake of Internet’s Blue Whale Challenge, preventive measures are being developed.
Sion Hospital has roped in IITians to develop a dedicated app that is part of a suicide prevention system which is in the works at the hospital. “Through this app, parents will be able to block unwanted sites on their children’s phones. The pass code for unlocking it will only be provided to parents,” said Aslam Khan, CEO, Octaware Technologies, who has been roped in for the project by Sion Hospital. Khan has also developed a database for the hospital that focuses on the study of suicides.
The ‘Blue Whale Game’, which is said to have originated in Russia in 2013, involves accomplishing several challenges and move up levels. The final challenge goads the participant to take his own life. The game is believed to have been responsible for the death of over 100 teens across the world
